ChemoHero Christmas Lights to be launched

Barnstaple Town Centre Management and Barnstaple Town Council are delighted to announce that there are some very special new Christmas Lights for Barnstaple this year!

The new lights are in honour of Lisa Wallis, founder of local charity ChemoHero who passed away from cancer aged 38 earlier this year.

Hannah Harrington, Town Centre Management said: “We are so delighted with these new ChemoHero inspired lights. Lisa was nominated as our Community Hero and turned the town’s lights on back in 2017 so we really wanted to pay tribute to her this year and support the amazing work that ChemoHero continues to do. As well as the ChemoHero inspired lights the wreaths in the Pannier Market have been decorated with an orange and blue theme and the switch-on evening will include a laser show dedicated to the work of the charity.

“The lights will be turned on during the switch on evening, which this year will be a low key event on Thursday 25 November and also heralds the start of late night shopping in the town every Thursday until Christmas. Our Welcome back to Barnstaple this Christmas campaign is all about celebrating and supporting our local community from local heroes to local businesses and with so much going on this year there are lots of opportunities to soak up the festive atmosphere and enjoy our town centre safely.”
Rob Wallis said: “I just can’t believe how much support and love that Lisa had throughout her journey and has had since her passing. The support that myself and the family have had is overwhelming and the idea of ChemoHero Christmas lights is just wonderful.

“Lisa would be so pleased to know that she has left such a lasting legacy and would be so excited to see ChemoHero lights up in the town each year. Thank you to everyone for all their care, well-wishes and to Hannah and the Town Council for this rather fab gift!”
Rob Ward, Town Clerk said: “We were more than happy to get behind this brilliant idea for new ChemoHero Christmas lights and work with Town Centre Management to source these in time for the switch on which is the 25th November this year.
“The work that Lisa did throughout was incredibly impressive and absolutely should be recognised, and what better way to do that but in the shape of some beautiful Christmas lights.”
